Update Summaries
9/9/2026 — Competition Moves Toward Influence Over Operating System Environments — Latest additions to the Mogin Law AI Deal Table — suggest that competition in artificial intelligence is continuing to move beyond chips, data centers, cloud capacity, electricity, and other physical inputs into the platforms, workflows, and sector-specific systems that determine how AI is deployed. Earlier entries in the table highlighted the infrastructure race necessary to support AI systems at scale. The September 2026 additions point to a related but distinct development: competition for influence over the operating environments where businesses use AI to manage customers, assess investments, detect fraud, secure networks, design vehicles, and evaluate strategic infrastructure alternatives. Click for more.
Several of the new entries involve AI moving directly into enterprise workflows. SoundHound AI’s acquisition of LivePerson would deepen its position in AI-enabled customer-service systems by combining voice and digital-messaging capabilities. Nasdaq’s acquisition of Dasseti and Nasdaq Verafin’s partnership with Alloy point in a different direction: the use of AI to shape financial diligence, private-market data gathering, compliance, and fraud-risk management. Palo Alto Networks’ agreement to acquire Console reflects the same pattern in cybersecurity, where AI-native tools are being used not merely to analyze threats, but to prioritize responses and automate security operations.
The UST-Italdesign transaction adds another sector-specific example. By combining automotive design and engineering operations with AI, digital-engineering, and software-defined-vehicle capabilities, the deal illustrates how AI competition is extending into industrial design, mobility platforms, and embedded software. The EdgeMode, BlackBerry AIF, and BLACK AI Group strategic-review item is different because no definitive transaction has been announced. Still, it is worth watching because the possible structures identified by the parties include a merger, acquisition, investment, strategic partnership, or other arrangement involving AI infrastructure and strategic alternatives.
Taken together, these developments suggest that AI deal activity is moving steadily upward through the stack. The strategically valuable assets are no longer limited to compute inputs and foundation-model capacity. They increasingly include customer-engagement systems, diligence platforms, fraud-risk tools, cybersecurity workflows, software-defined-vehicle capabilities, engineering teams, data channels, and distribution points embedded in business operations. For antitrust purposes, the question is not only whether a transaction increases concentration in a conventionally defined product market, but whether it gives an incumbent greater control over the workflows, data, integrations, and decision points through which AI is adopted.
Items we are watching but did not include in the table: Several reported Nvidia-related items need stronger confirmation. Search results claimed that Nvidia agreed to acquire Hugging Face for approximately $12.9 billion, but the retrieved sources were secondary so, while included in the table, please note we need confirmation. A separate report described Nvidia as being in talks regarding a possible investment in Thinking Machines Lab, but that item was characterized as a possible or discussed transaction rather than a completed deal. Those items, if confirmed, would reinforce the same upward-stack theme by involving AI development platforms, model ecosystems, or frontier-AI capabilities.
9/1/2026 — The Race for AI Advantage Moves Up the Stack — Additions to the Mogin Law AI Deal Table suggest that competition in artificial intelligence is expanding beyond computing infrastructure and into the platforms, workflows, and ecosystems that determine how AI is developed and deployed. Earlier entries highlighted a race for chips, data centers, electricity, cloud capacity, and other physical inputs required to support AI systems at scale. Recent transactions point to a related but distinct development: competition for influence over the environments where developers build software, share models, access tools, and create the next generation of AI applications. Click for more.
One of the most notable new developments is Nvidia’s reported acquisition of Hugging Face for approximately $13 billion. Although the transaction has been reported rather than formally confirmed, its significance lies less in the purchase price than in Hugging Face’s position within the AI ecosystem. Often described as a “GitHub for AI,” Hugging Face serves as a central hub for hosting, distributing, benchmarking, and collaborating on open models and datasets. If completed, the transaction would extend Nvidia’s reach beyond semiconductors and compute into one of the most important distribution and development platforms in artificial intelligence. The move would be consistent with broader efforts by major AI companies to secure access not only to infrastructure, but also to the communities and workflows that drive innovation.
Another addition to the table, Nvidia’s reported $6 billion transaction involving Poolside, reflects a continuing trend toward unconventional AI deal structures. Rather than relying solely on traditional mergers and acquisitions, companies increasingly appear to be pursuing combinations of strategic investment, technology access, talent acquisition, and long-term collaboration. As discussed in previous Mogin Law analyses of AI acqui-hires and related arrangements, these structures can shift competitive dynamics even when they do not resemble conventional acquisitions. In rapidly evolving markets, control of engineering talent and development capabilities may be as important as ownership of products or intellectual property.
These developments complement other recent transactions already reflected in the AI Deal Table, including SpaceX’s acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind the Cursor coding platform. These deals suggest that major AI players increasingly seek assets that influence how developers interact with AI systems, which tools they use, and where innovation occurs.
The trend raises questions that extend beyond traditional measures of market concentration. The AI industry’s most strategically valuable assets increasingly include developer ecosystems, workflow platforms, benchmark systems, model repositories, engineering talent, and other forms of influence embedded throughout the technology stack. Recent transactions suggest that the industry’s race for advantage is moving steadily upward through the stack, from the hardware that powers AI to the workflows that shape how AI is built, distributed, and adopted.
Also worth noting: Nvidia has reportedly committed $24 billion in just our latest two updates.

8/17/2026 — Control of Compute, Infrastructure, Chips, Capacity —This update reveals that AI-related transactions and financing arrangements tell an increasingly broad competition story: control over compute, infrastructure, specialized chips, cloud capacity, enterprise workflows, and the physical systems needed to make AI usable at scale. Click for more.
Nvidia’s Expanding Role: Supplier, Investor, or AI Gatekeeper? Nvidia’s reported $5 billion investment in Safe Superintelligence, founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, underscored the company’s growing role beyond chip supply. The investment reportedly included access to Nvidia’s Vera Rubin GPU platform, reinforcing Nvidia’s position as a financier, infrastructure partner, and potential gatekeeper in the AI ecosystem. For antitrust observers, the question is whether control over compute, financing, and deployment pathways can create competitive dependency before traditional market-share measures show a problem.
OpenAI’s Quiet Expansion into Enterprise Productivity. OpenAI’s reported acquisition of NextSlide appeared smaller and quieter than the infrastructure deals dominating the AI market, but it may have been just as revealing. If the transaction added presentation-generation or workflow-productivity capabilities, it would point to OpenAI’s continuing movement downstream into tools that enterprise users may touch every day. Deals like this matter because control over applications, distribution, and workplace interfaces can expand an AI company’s reach without the drama of a landmark merger.
The Infrastructure Race Widens Beyond GPUs. AMD’s reported acquisition of Taalas fit the broader pattern: leading infrastructure players are competing on more than raw hardware supply. AI computing increasingly depends on optimization, deployment capability, software integration, and the ability to make infrastructure work efficiently at scale. That means an acquisition tied to AI computing capabilities may affect not only chip competition, but access, interoperability, performance advantages, and barriers to entry across downstream AI markets.
When Cloud Contracts Become Strategic Assets. Google Cloud’s reported $100 million compute arrangement with Mirendil showed why infrastructure commitments deserve attention alongside acquisitions. Compute agreements are starting to look less like ordinary vendor contracts and more like strategic capacity reservations in a constrained market. If access to processing power determines which AI developers can train, deploy, and scale, then long-term cloud and compute commitments may shape market structure as directly as ownership of a company.
The AI Infrastructure Land Grab Continues. Recent funding reports involving Valar Atomics, Base Power, Firmus, and other infrastructure-focused companies reinforced the same point: much of the AI race is moving into power, compute, data centers, and the physical systems needed to operate AI at scale. These deals are not merely adjacent to AI competition; they may define who can participate in it. The most important competitive assets may increasingly be electricity, cooling, networking, chip access, and capacity commitments rather than models alone.
